Our Mission

Empowering through Information

We believe communication and dialogue are the foundation of peace and unity. At SBS we act as a bridge — providing news, cultural content and educational programming that informs, educates and connects our listeners across Afghanistan and beyond.

— Our founding charter, Charikar 2013
i.
What we do

Three pillars of community radio.

Journalism, engagement, culture — the three commitments that shape everything on 104.6 FM.

01

Local News & Reporting

Ground-level reporting from Parwan and surrounding provinces — verified, contextual, and in your language.

02

Community Engagement

Surveys, listener call-ins and field visits so our programming reflects what communities actually need.

03

Education & Culture

Cultural programs, educational content and Islamic programming that celebrate Afghanistan's heritage and shared future.

ii.
Coverage

Where the signal carries.

From our Charikar transmitter, our signal reaches listeners across Parwan, Kapisa, Panjshir and into parts of Kabul, Kunar and Logar. Because Afghanistan is mountainous, the coverage follows the valleys and passes — not a perfect circle. Every day, on 104.6 FM, we are on air.

iii.
Community

Radio built with the people who listen.

We run listener surveys, community meetups and field visits so our programming reflects what communities actually need — not what we assume.

Listener surveys

We regularly run structured listener surveys — in person, by phone and via Kobo forms — to understand what programs land, what topics matter, and what is missing from our schedule.

Field engagement

Our reporters and volunteers visit villages, bazaars, and community centers across Parwan and neighbouring provinces to gather stories, verify reports, and stay accountable to our audience.
